• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Brandon Farmers’ Market takes place inside The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave., Brandon). Local fresh produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, yarn, bison, beef, beeswax candles, crafts and more. This event runs year-round.

• 8:20 p.m. — The Shamrock Drive-In (Killarney) is showing a double feature for their last showing of the season. Gates open at 8:20 p.m. with the movie beginning at dusk. • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Come and find some radishing veggies at the Global Market. Shop an amazing selection of homegrown produce, fresh baked goods and handmade crafts. Located in the Re-Fit Store building at 23 12th St.

• 7:30 p.m. — Poor Michael’s Emporium (322 Highway 10 at Onanole) is happy to have the Madeleine Roger Trio in concert on the patio, featuring Keiran Placatka on keys with Dom Adams on vocals and guitar. • 11:45 a.m. — Retired Teachers and Retired EAs luncheon will take place at the Legion Club Room in Virden. Features a guest speaker, several draws, lots of visiting and fellowship. Lunch by the Legion’s Ladies Auxiliary for a cost of $15. Membership dues of $15 will also be collected. If you wish, bring an item for the Virden and Area Food Cupboard. • 1 to 3:30 p.m. — Beginners’ Bridge lessons will be offered at Seniors for Seniors on Tuesday afternoons from Sept. 5 to Nov. 28 from 1-3:30 p.m. This is a chance for everyone, from beginners to slightly experienced players, to develop and practise their bridge skills. MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

• Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display area for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. The 18,039 RCAF members who lost their lives during the war are honoured on the museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial Wall. The museum is proud to be one of the seven Manitoba Signature Museums, a Manitoba Star Attraction and a National Historic Site. On display until Sept. 30: “Ace Flight Academy,” a virtual reality exhibit. Come fly a Second World War biplane — included in your admission.

• Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June); Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. (July and August). Admission: $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and youth (six to 18 years old), family (up to two adults and three children) $12, and children under five are admitted free. • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — “A contemporary art gallery, school and shop that celebrates artistic excellence and diversity within our region and beyond.” The AGSM is Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first. • Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The Frame House was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware merchant and prominent citizen in the community. Entering the museum is like stepping back in time to the 1880s, as you’ll notice the Victorian stylings throughout the home, which is complete with a spacious coach house. The museum houses a collection of more than 11,000 items. Open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Guided tours and admission prices: $5 for adults; $2 for school-aged children and free for children under five. Groups of eight or more receive a 50 per cent discount on admissions.

• Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed all statutory holidays. Special tours can be arranged by calling the arts administrator at 204-554-0023.

• Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon history hall, Manitoba telephone history, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. • ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa, in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.

Valdy, winner of two Juno awards with a total of seven Juno nominations, has four gold albums and was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005 and is an Order of Canada appointee.

• Sept. 7-9 — The Rotary fall book sale will take place in the Imperial Ballroom at the Victoria Inn. Free book for every child! Something for everyone. Free admission. Please bring your own reusable shopping bags. Sept. 7-8 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Sept. 8-9 — Hatch, a two-day block party style festival will take place at parking lot 2A of the Brandon University campus. The lineup of artists for Hatch’s debut includes a collection of celebrated former Brandon artists including the band Field Guide, JJ Shiplett, Roman Clarke and The Dirty Catfish Brass Band. Other musical performers include Juno-nominated roots powerhouse The Small Glories. Hatch is an 18+ event and is open to Westman residents. Only 500 tickets are available, and they can be purchased at hatchfest.ca for $30 per day or $50 for both days.

• Sept. 9 — Steppin’ Out dances take place at the Royal Canadian Legion No. 3 in Brandon and are resuming for the fall/winter season. Tonight is live music by The 3 Berts and Murray from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Admission is $15. Refreshments included.

• Sept. 9 — CK Sports Cards will be holding a show at the Victoria Inn (3550 Victoria Ave.) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors will be showcasing cards and memorabilia from all your favorite sports clubs. Raw grading submissions will also be available. Admission tickets are available at the door for $2 or at their website for only $1.

• Sept. 9 — At the Farm Gate, fall market at the Onanole Rec Centre 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Become a “locavore” and discover the artisan gifts and farm fresh products that are waiting to be purchased right in our own backyard.
