BRANDON UNIVERSITY
The BU Symphonic Band and guests will perform on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. Under the direction of Dr. Wendy Zander McCallum, the Symphonic Band will perform with guest ensembles and outstanding high school students from across Westman. Tickets are $15.75 for adults, $5.25 for ages 13 to 18 and free for BU students, Conservatory of Music students and children under 12.
Dr. Lili Jardine will discuss the experiences of Colombian immigrants in Canada in the BU at the Public Library Speaker Series on Wednesday. Dr. Jardine will talk about learning pathways that helped immigrants to make use of their Colombian university education to succeed in Canada. The talk will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m., in the Program Room of the Downtown Brandon Public Library.
Dr. Robert Mizzi of the University of Manitoba will visit BU on Thursday to discuss why 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion in school libraries matters. Dr. Mizzi is the Canada Research Chair in Queer, Community and Diversity Education. The talk will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Gathering Space of the John E. Robbins Library.
Dr. Todd Fugleberg of BU’s Department of Physics and Astronomy will talk about particle production from gravitational waves in a Science Seminar Series event on Friday. The talk will begin at 2:30 p.m. in Room 4-47 of the John R. Brodie Science Centre. It will also be available online. Email TeepleH@BrandonU.ca for more information.
The Bobcats volleyball teams will host the University of Alberta on Friday and Saturday at the Healthy Living Centre. The women begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, with the men following at 7:45 p.m. On Saturday, the matches start at 5 p.m. for women, and 6:45 p.m. for men. The Bobcats soccer teams are going for gold this weekend at the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference championships at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex in Winnipeg. The semifinals take place on Saturday afternoon, with the women’s final at 1 p.m. and the men’s championship match at 3:15 p.m.
The illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner rises to improbably heights in French society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer in Chevalier, screening at the Evans Theatre on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Inspired by the incredible true story of composer Joseph Bologne, Chavelier de Saint-Georges, the movie will show at 7:30 p.m. each evening. Tickets are $6.
Harvest Hall will host a Halloween Howl community event on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m., as a fundraiser for Helping Hands and the Westman Traditional Christmas Dinner. Hot dogs, drinks and chips will be available, with free candy for all those in costumes. Unwrapped toys, food and cash donations will also be accepted, with prizes given out for the best costume and best carved pumpkin.

ASSINIBOINE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The college’s annual Advancement Dinner will be held Nov. 1 at the Victoria Inn. The event celebrates the outstanding achievements of this year’s alumni award recipients, Chuck Judd, Karen MacDonald, Akaps Mweemba, Pam Nightingale, Kailan Dreolini and Andrew Blair. The Assiniboine Community College Students’ Association will hold a Halloween Food Drive from Oct. 24 to Oct. 31, with the help of Heritage Co-op. There will be a bin outside of the ACCSA’s office where you will be able to donate non-perishable items. Additionally, Hunger Bags can be purchased through Heritage Co-op to be donated to the ACCSA, to provide further donations to Samaritan House.

The ACC Students’ Association has moved to a new temporary office. You can find the ACCSA team in room 221 from 8:30 to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
