Police chief selection process continuing
Brandon’s new police chief could be announced in December or January of next year, Mayor Jeff Fawcett told the Sun.
The job posting for the position of chief of police closed on Oct. 10 and Fawcett, who sits on the Brandon Police Board, expects interviews will take place next month.
The Sun reached out to Deb Arpin, the chair of the police board, who confirmed that the job posting has closed, but declined to provide any further information.
The position was first posted on the city’s website on Sept. 13.
The Sun will provide more details when they become available.
School break-in
A 14-year-old boy was arrested after allegedly breaking into Meadows School Monday evening.
The boy was located in the school by staff who called his family to take him home. He was also on a court-ordered condition to not attend any Brandon School Division properties unless accompanied by staff members or his family.
Police arrested the boy, and he faces charges of break and enter with intent and failing to comply with an undertaking.
Theft arrests
Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing merchandise from a business on the 1600 block of 18th Street on Monday morning.
Around 10 a.m., police responded to a report of a theft from the business where the two men allegedly fled with merchandise. Police located the men nearby and arrested them.
A 35-year-old man will appear in court on Dec. 28 on a charge of theft under $5,000.
The second man, a 22-year-old, who was also found to allegedly be in possession of merchandise stolen from a second nearby business on the same day, will appear in court on Dec. 28 on two counts of theft under $5,000.
Break-in to shed
Police are looking for more information about a break and enter to a shed on Heron Cove this weekend.
According to police, the suspect forced the doors over the weekend, and it is not clear if anything was taken.
