The Kin Club of Gladstone and the Gladstone Chamber of Commerce are bringing some holiday cheer to the community again this year by hosting a parade of lights for the second Christmas season in a row.
The parade, which will take place in Gladstone, located 109 kilometres northeast of Brandon, is happening on Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. After that, children can get their pictures taken with Santa Claus at Gladstone & District Arena, which is also part of the free event.
Daryl Shipman, the mayor of the municipality of Westlake-Gladstone and the secretary of the Gladstone Kin Club, is really looking forward to the event, which will inject a spirit of festivity into the dark, cold Manitoba winter.
Last year’s Parade of Lights in Gladstone, put on by the Gladstone Kin Club, delighted attendees, Mayor Daryl Shipman, who is also a Kin Club member, said. (Facebook)
“It’s to get the community excited about the festive season, and so something for the kids,” he said. “It’s just a good time to get everybody on board and get people in the Christmas spirit.”
Last year — the first year the parade of lights was held — around 30 floats took part in the parade. Shipman hopes that this year’s will have even more floats to delight attendees. Anyone interested in registering a float for the event can e-mail gladstonekinclub@gmail.com. However, even those who decide to join the parade last-minute are welcome, he said.
“You don’t have to sign up — you can show up at quarter to five on that day. We’ll put you in line, and then we get going at six o’clock. Last year, it was a lot of generators, and a lot of lights.”
