IN LOCAL HISTORY
• 55 YEARS AGO — The Brandon University Bobcats hockey team won its first game in the Rotary Tri-Centennial Hockey tournament in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. Brandon opened the tournament by beating Cambrian College 5-2. Mel Jesson led the Bobcats with three goals, while Bruce Bonk and Wayne McGill added singles.
• 45 YEARS AGO — Grant Coulter scored 24 points and Rob Weber added 19 points as the Crocus Plainsmen defeated the Crocus alumni team 114-52 in an exhibition high school basketball game. Brian Doell topped the alumni squad with 14 points, five more than Tony Scott.
• 35 YEARS AGO — Greta Cook’s rink of Iris Carroll, Clara Neets and Sara McCarty defeated Doreen Peterson in the Golden Gals District 6 curling finals in Wawanesa.
