• 60 YEARS AGO — CJATC Rivers held off a determined bid by Heming Diamonds in the second half to rack up a 52-46 victory in the Western Manitoba Senior Basketball League last night. Bill Muise led the winners as he caged 15 points.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Dale McMullin, an 18-year-old veteran, finally returned to the Brandon Wheat Kings. McMullin has missed the previous 12 games due to a broken jaw.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Byron Lomow and Bryan Wells both scored twice for the Brandon Wheat Kings, who got singles from Derek Laxdal, Brent Jessiman, Brad Wells and John Dzikowski in a 8-2 whipping of the Kelowna Wings in WHL action.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Rob Fowler’s Brandon foursome of William Lyburn, Ryan Johnson and Craig Moffatt defeated Travis Gamble 9-3 in the B-side final of the Zone 8 junior men’s provincial playdowns at the Brandon Curling Club. Fowler advanced to the provincial championship.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Lyle Meek scored the winning goal 3:18 into overtime as the Brandon Stingers defeated the Melita Bisons 5-4 Friday night in the SouthWest Hockey League.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Brandonite Landon Rice enjoyed his first year with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and he’s planning to stay with the team for a few more. The 25-year-old Crocus Plains graduate signed a two-year deal plus an option with the Canadian Football League’s defending East Division champions.
