• 60 YEARS AGO — River Bend Auto Body captured second-quarter honours in Major Men’s 5-pin bowling. Len Stewart rolled 336 single while John Proctor fired a sizzling 824 triple for the gents.

• 50 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Sun Basketballers coughed, wheezed and sputtered their way to a season-opening victory by defeating the Boissevain Broncos 95-45. Bill Moody, former star with the Brandon University Bobcats had a 36-point performance. Mike Pierson topped Boissevain with 14 points.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Vincent Massey Vikings varsity boys are 0-2 after the first two matches of their 13-day European volleyball tour. Massey was beaten 5-1 by the University of Heidelberg and 6-0 by Nijmegen, a senior men’s team from the Netherlands.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Scott Henuset tallied twice and Scott Preston earned the shutout as the Reston Rockets beat the Souris Elks 3-0 Saturday in the SouthWest Hockey League. Kent Schiltroth rounded out the Rockets’ scoring at Reston.

• 10 YEARS AGO — With the Brandon U18 AAA Wheat Kings lacking a spark against the Yellowhead Chiefs Friday night at the Sportsplex, Jordan McCausland’s four goals gave them one as the Manitoba U18 AAA Midget Hockey League’s first-place team earned its 17th win in a row, topping the Chiefs 6-2.
