1. You need to function the next day to parent your children.

2. You will absolutely have an overtired little gremlin on your hands the next day.

The Dock on Princess may have a solution for parents in this situation. The Dock will once again host the Kids New Year’s Eve party on Dec. 30. It’s not actually New Year’s Eve, but your mini-me doesn’t need to know that.

Erin Wells, general manager at The Dock and a mom of two herself, said she and the staff have planned a fun evening with all the things that kids will like to eat, so you can have a nice time out and get to bed at a decent hour.

“We are having the kids party upstairs on our second floor, and we’ll have a kids’ menu, kids’ drinks, kids’ desserts,” Wells said. “We’ll have activities and crafts, and then we’ll have an early countdown so parents can get their little ones to bed at a decent time.”

The dining room will be decorated with New Year’s decorations and to the delight of parents, there will be noise makers on the tables. Wells said she even has a “pin-the-tail-on-the-unicorn” game. The menu includes all the kids’ favourites, including mini corn dogs, macaroni and cheese, and Year of the Dragon chicken bites. Dessert includes a cookie cone, full of cookies. And forget the milk. Wells has a special “Shimmer and Shine” drink. The Dock is also making slushies. Parents can order off the regular menu, but the mac and cheese and slushie combo might be appealing to some adults as well.

“Because that’s what kids need, right? More sugar,” Wells laughed.

The Kids New Year’s Eve party is open to children of any age. But “probably kids aged three to 10 years will have the most fun,” Wells said. The party runs from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Dock will be closed on New Year’s Eve, but adults who like some good wholesome fun can come at 8:30 after the kids’ party wraps up on Dec. 30 for some “live juke box” with Manitoban musician Matt Zimmerman. Participants in the game could win Bothwell cheese or the grand prize of a Dock gift card.

Tickets for the Kids New Year’s Eve party are $9 per child and includes their meal and their activities. Call The Dock to make a reservation.
