The westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway were closed for around 90 minutes on Friday afternoon due to an incident involving a semi-trailer hauling cars just east of Carberry.
The Manitoba RCMP did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but users on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) posted photos and video of a semi-trailer carrying vehicles on fire and being attended to by firefighters.
The Carberry/North Cypress-Langford Fire Department declined to comment on the incident when reached by phone, stating that only the police could speak on the matter because of confidentiality concerns.
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure first reported the incident at 2:59 p.m., then noted at 4:35 p.m. that one westbound lane had been reopened to traffic.
