Hey there, time traveller!

Mike Lamb has been singing and playing other people’s songs for years, but the long-time musician finally got to record his own original songs this weekend. Lamb, who is well known for being the morning DJ on 96.1 Bounce FM in Brandon is coming off a high after recording three of his original songs at a professional studio in Winnipeg this past weekend.
Lamb also teaches at Assiniboine Community College and has spent many weekends playing with his cover band 8 Track Shuffle all over Westman. But, he said, he has been working on developing his own sound for a while and writes both the music and the lyrics to the songs. Lamb recorded three songs at the No Fun Club in Winnipeg, where he had the flexibility to work his songs closer to perfection and realize a creative dream.
“It felt incredible, it felt rewarding. It kind of felt like a bit of a payoff for all these years and decades of doing music. And like I mentioned before being in the cover band, you know, doing a lot of cover songs and other people’s music. It’s just a completely different feeling when you’re creating your own music and not just mimicking what someone else has already done,” Lamb said.

Lamb said music has been a life-long passion and he has been playing some sort of instrument since he was four. He said he started writing songs after he began working on becoming more mindful, and was inspired by the everyday people and things around him. Lamb said most of the songs have a folk sound to them, but that might change with future songs.
“I would say folk would be the best umbrella for them. But I also, I put one song out last year, and then I just recorded two songs and they all sound quite different from each other already. I kind of write whatever I’m feeling or thinking, and I don’t really nail it down to a genre and that’s not a bad thing,” Lamb said.
Lamb says he enjoys writing and composing music and, while putting an album together is not necessarily what he wants to do next, he hopes more people will be inspired to pursue their creative endeavor after hearing his songs.
“I just hope that people hear it, potentially enjoy it, and/or even be inspired by it. That is kind of the goal for me is that someone hears it and maybe it inspires them to start that creative process or to do that creative thing. I think that’s been a big thing for me for a very long time — fears and doubts going into this, like, “Am I good enough to book a studio to do this?” It was really nice to just put aside fears and doubts and do it,” Lamb said.
“I am just a person who has a job. But I like to think I’m just an average person. And the point I’m trying to make is that anyone can do what I did. You don’t have to be at a certain level. You can do that. You can contact the studio; you can get that professional experience. So, I hope I can maybe inspire people to do that.”
Lamb’s songs will be available to download anywhere you can download music starting at the end of January.
