Brandon Wheat Kings forward Brady Turko’s offensive statistics in December earned him Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League forward of the month honours.

Last month, Turko scored eight goals and added five assists in just six games. His offence played a key part in helping his team go 6-0-0-0 before the Christmas break.

Currently, the second-year forward stands second in the league for points (56), first in goals (27), and is in third for assists (29). His contribution this season has been instrumental in Brandon’s first-place 27-0-1-0 record.

Turko was drafted in the fifth round, 97th overall of the Western Hockey League by the Brandon Wheat Kings and has subsequently signed with the club.

The top defenceman honour goes to Talon Hogg of the Interlake Lightning.

In six games in December, Hogg had a goal and three assists, and now has 13 points in 25 games.

While modest numbers, Hogg is every GM’s top priority because he is a right shot, right side defender who uses his size and strength to shut down players.

The 11th grader from Warren is a prospect for the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

The monthly goaltending honour goes to Micky Gross of the Southwest Cougars.

In three starts, he posted a 1.57 GAA, .946 save percentage and had one shutout. From Cornwallis, he is a prospect of the MJHL’s Virden Oil Capitals.

He currently has a .930 save percentage, two shutouts and sits at the top in both these statistical categories. He also sits second in the league with a 2.23 GAA.
