Owen LaRocque’s first appearance with the third-place Pembina Valley Twisters was a victory.

The Wawanesa resident was 24.3 seconds from recording a shutout in his Junior B debut playing at Terry Sawchuk Arena when the Twisters prevailed 5-1 facing the 10th-place River East Royal Knights during the Sunday night Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League game.

The five-foot-11 LaRocque started his sophomore season with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Virden Oil Capitals, but a lower body injury put him on the sidelines.

Awaiting surgery and further diagnosis from athletic specialists, he asked to be assigned to a Junior B team instead of going on LTIR, which would have meant his hockey season would have been over on Jan. 10.

The Oil Capitals can now AP him, and recall LaRocque to the MJHL if needed in an emergency.

Unlike the weekly time Virden spends on the ice playing and practicing, with the Twisters LaRocque skates a few times per week, thus reducing aggravating his injury further.

In three games with the Oil Capitals, 2005-born LaRocque posted a 2-1 record and 3.63 GAA.
