Keystone Centre chair Bruce Luebke announced the appointment of interim general manager Connie Lawrence as the centre’s new chief executive officer on Tuesday during opening remarks at Manitoba Ag Days.

Luebke said Lawrence, who has been with the organization for eight years, steps into the leadership role with a wealth of experience, having served in various capacities, including most recently as assistant GM and sales manager.

The search for a new CEO, he said, began following the departure of former CEO Jeff Schumacher in October. Luebke said 30 candidates were considered from around the world.

Lawrence expressed her gratitude and humility for the appointment, outlining her vision of fostering an environment of open communication, trust and mutual respect within the organization.

“A strong team is not just about individuals’ capabilities, but it is also about the collaboration and shared values,” she said. “By cultivating this environment, we will continue to improve the experiences we deliver to our patrons, clients and partners.”

Beyond the impressive facility and world-class events hosted at the centre, she said, it holds a special place in the heart of the community. The team will continue to seek partnerships and collaborations to drive positive change and create opportunities for the growth and development of both the facility and the community, she added.

“I want to express my deep appreciation to the Keystone Centre board, our incredible staff and the entire community for their trust and support,” she said. “Together, with a shared vision of a strong and dedicated team, we will continue to elevate the Keystone.”
