Only three teams survived the opening day with two wins at the Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Morden’s Access Event Centre.

Top seed Kaitlyn Lawes and her Fort Rouge team is the only unbeaten team in the six-team Asham Black Group.

In the Asham Express Red Group, second seed Kate Cameron (Granite) and third seed Jolene Campbell (Assiniboine Memorial) both won their opening day pair of games.

All three top seeds were 3-0 following the morning and early afternoon draws on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Dauphin skip Tiffany Armstrong and her foursome of third Morgan Kropeinicki, second Stacy Sime and lead Tamara Kolida dropped both of their opening round games, losing to 9-2 to Cameron and 8-2 facing Campbell.

Armstrong then dropped a 7-2 decision on Thursday afternoon to Lisa McLeod (Portage) before facing Zoey Terrick (Heather) that evening.

Results from Thursday night’s draws were not available at deadline.

The provincial women’s 12-team curling championship for Manitoba continues daily until the playoffs on the weekend, with the final scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.

The winning rink will represent Manitoba at the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Canada’s national women’s curling championship, in Calgary, Alta.
