Hey there, time traveller!

The Green Team program approved 22 projects in Brandon last year, amounting to $295,861 in total funding.
Some of the projects in Brandon funded under the provincial program were Richmond Park Mennonite Brethren Church ($32,494), City of Brandon ($25,038), Westman Regional Soccer Association ($23,445), Brandon School Division ($21,945), Brandon Riverbank ($16,001), Cities Church ($18,986) and Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation ($15,405).
The amounts were confirmed in statistics provided by cabinet communications on Wednesday, following the announcement of intakes for the 2024 Green Team program by Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Ian Bushie.

During a media briefing in Winnipeg, Bushie highlighted the significance of supporting municipalities and community-based organizations to address community needs and empower youth.
In 2023, the Green Team program, he said, approved more than 744 projects and created more than 2,500 youth employment opportunities throughout Manitoba. The program extends its support to community organizations and youth participants, aiming to provide summer employment opportunities that not only enhance neighbourhoods but also promote community involvement and cultivate the leaders of today and tomorrow.
“Green Team provides youth with opportunities to serve their communities through a broad range of projects, including trail and field maintenance, summer camps and recreation activities, among many others,” he said.
Reflecting on the program’s success in Winnipeg, Bushie commended the Boys and Girls Club of Winnipeg, which received more than $82,000 from the program. This funding allowed 17 youth to work across BGC locations, providing leadership and support to summer programs and learning activities.
Bushie acknowledged the integral role of municipalities, community organizations and dedicated volunteers in making these community projects possible. He emphasized the collaborative efforts that contribute to improving the lives of all Manitobans.
“There are excellent opportunities for summer employment across the province,” he said. “We’re hoping to have an extensive intake in the program, aiming to achieve or even exceed the numbers from the past.”
The specific numbers for 2024, Bushie said, would depend on the intake process. However, he reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving similar or even higher numbers than the previous year, to create valuable employment opportunities for the youth of Manitoba.
