• 60 YEARS AGO — Brandon Collegiate beat St. Michael’s Academy 25-18 in a City High School Basketball League game senior girls game. Sharon Brown and Sharon Wilson led BCI with nine points each, while Denise Kuys caged six for St. Michael’s.
• 50 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Midget Wheat Kings dumped Virden 5-1 in a Turtle Mountain midget A game at the Kinsmen Arena. Ken Whyte, Grant Fowler, Kerry Mashinter, Paul Murray and Clyde Braun scored for the Wheaties, who took 17 of 24 minor penalties
• 40 YEARS AGO — Jody Bright scored 24 points to spark the Crocus Plainsmen to a 69-32 victory facing the Neelin Spartans in a junior varsity girls’ game in the Brandon High School Basketball League last night.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Scott Dickson and Shawn Wood both fired a pair of goals to pace the Brandon Wheat Kings to an 8-5 triumph over the host Winnipeg Sharks in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Kelly Glowa of Brandon set up Chris Low of Foxwarren for a power-play goal in the second period, but Kazakhstan scored two unanswered third-period goals to beat the Ile-des-Chenes North Stars 6-4 in the opening game of the Nagano Cup hockey tournament.
• 10 YEARS AGO — In the varsity girls’ division of the Java Jam high school basketball tournament, Paige Thomson put up 37 points to lead the Neelin Spartans in their 72-57 victory over Westwood. Nikki Majewski replied with 24 for the Warriors. Thomson led Neelin with 22 points earlier in the day as the Spartans fell 71-62 to the Golden Bears.
