Want to learn how to throw “high heat” as a baseball pitcher?

If so, Triple Crown Sports in Brandon is running its two-day high heat program starting on March 30.

Open to players aged U11 to U18, participants will take part in pitching-specific sessions aimed at both high-performance and beginner skills.

Pitchers will be split up into skill-level-appropriate small groups to maximize development. Sessions during the two days of instruction include pitcher-specific drills, full-length bullpens plus guest coaches.

One of those coaches is Jamie Bettens, who has spent years in the Baseball Manitoba system as a player and coach.

Following his college career in Iowa, he played professionally for Winnipeg and Duluth, Minn., in the Northern League. Plus, he suited up for Canada at the World Baseball Challenge.

As head coach of the 2010 MJBL all-stars, Bettens will be inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame this summer.

The cost for the high heat program is $75. For information visit www.tcsports.ca

Sessions for the various age groups are U11 10 to 11:30 a.m.; U13 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and U15/U18 1 to 3 p.m.
