Brandon skip Murray Warren is off to a good start at the Manitoba Credit Unions master men’s provincial championship in Portage.
The former provincial men’s masters champion is 4-0 after four draws following a 12-2 victory facing Brandon skip Alan Fitzmaurice’s rink in the Friday 7:30 p.m. draw.
Warren’s foursome of Reginald Warren, Terry Warren and Brian Barker earlier defeated Team Antila 6-4, Team Walker 5-4 and Team Folton 8-6 prior to facing Team Fitzmaurie’s rink featuring Jim Dyck, Dean Laval and Lester Vopni.
Warren was up 7-2 going into the seventh end when he scored five to remain undefeated after two days.
Team Fitzmaurice was 2-1 after his opening three draws, defeating Team Mahon 5-3, losing 8-2 to Team Gitzel, then rebounded to knock off Team German 8-5. With the loss he dropped to 2-2.
Team Struthers is the only other perfect foursome after posting four consecutive victories. Action resumes Saturday with draws at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., followed by one draw Sunday at 9 a.m. prior to playoffs.
The 16-team Master men’s championship features three teams from the Granite CC, two each from Brandon, Hamiota and Fort Rouge and single entries from Arden, Burntwood, East St. Paul, La Salle Miami, Stonewall, and Virden.
Playoffs in the four-team women’s championships will wrap up Sunday afternoon, while the men’s final is Monday afternoon.
