TODAY

• 10:15 to 11 a.m. — Story and Song Circle with Michelle at the Brandon Public Library. Preschoolers can join Michelle for stories, songs and crafts. The presence of a caregiver or parent is required. No registration necessary.

• 7:30 p.m. — An Evening with the Beatles. Enjoy a fun evening of Beatles music arranged for stringed instruments and played by the talented local Prairie Lights String Quartet featuring Kerry DuWors and Judit Jaramillo, violin; Robert Richardson, viola and Laura Jones, cello. • 7 p.m. — KidSport Manitoba’s For the Love of Sport presents Wildin’ Out Neon Party in the Grand Salon at the Victoria Inn (3550 Victoria Ave.) at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. with appetizers, martini bar and candy bar served. Live entertainment with comedian Kelly Taylor. Find your brightest colours to bring on the neon for this party. DJ/MC Joey Simms from Trident Music. • 9 a.m. — Westman Communications Group hosts the Westman Gaming Expo in the Manitoba Room at the Keystone Centre today and tomorrow. Join us for a weekend filled with thrilling battles, strategic showdowns and non-stop gaming action. CK Sports Cards and I Want That Stuff will also have 60-plus tables of sports cards and memorabilia. As always, we will be subbing to @psacard and @fcg_canada on both days so make sure to bring your raw cards. Admission is $2; children 10 and under are free.

• Noon — The Sportsplex Winter Fest is back. Join us at the Sportsplex (30 Knowlton Dr.) from noon to 4 p.m. for an afternoon filled with winter fun including sleigh rides, snow painting, live music with Choi Bolton, Katie MacDonald and Julianna Moore. Free hotdogs and hot chocolate (while supplies last), games and inflatable bouncers. And it is all completely free.

• 2 p.m. — It’s Storytime with the Animals at the Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St.). Robin Stewart from the WMRL joins the BJ Hales Natural History Gallery for stories, crafts and the reveal of our new interactive animal exhibit. Free for all ages.

• 6 p.m. — The Westman Scottish Association is hosting a Ceilidh at the Riverview Curling Club (420 Maryland Ave.) Step by step instructions on the line dancing; quiz and trivia; dance performances; pipers; accordion music and much more. Bar will be open and food will be available for purchase. Tickets are $15 and are available by messaging the Westman Scottish Association on Meta (Facebook).

• 6 p.m. — Road Rebels Trivia Night/Cruisin’ Winter Style Social Evening will be held in the Don-Glen Salon at Seniors for Seniors (311 Park Ave. East) Doors open at 6 p.m.; trivia from 7-10 p.m. Register your team as there are a limited number of tables available. Maximum eight people per team. Cost is $15 per person, which includes entry to social. Cash bar and snacks from 6 p.m. to close. Social evening starts after trivia ends. • 7 p.m. — The Brandon Festival of the Arts Piano Awards will take place at St. Matthew’s Cathedral with performances by Grade 3 — Diploma Level Winners and the presentation of piano scholarships and trophies.

• 7:30 p.m. — Join Alexander Tselyakov, Megumi Masaki, Dianna Neufeld and Daniel Tselyakov at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall for a performance showcasing the brilliance of the Brandon University School of Music’s newest Steinway Concert D grand piano. Revel in the magic of four to eight hands performing repertoire that celebrates the exquisite tones and colours of both our new Steinway Concert D pianos. MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

• Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Presently the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum is closed, but the Canteen Building is available for rent year-round, and you can shop the Tiger Moth Gift Shop by appointment by calling 204-727-2444. The museum will reopen on April 1, weather permitting. The museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial is open to the public from sunrise to sundown.

• Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). • Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Our Second World War vehicle exhibit includes eight military vehicles used by Canadians during the Second World War. Military vehicles provided firepower, logistical support, mobility and protection for the Canadian Army, enhancing their effectiveness during the Second World War. • Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art (2021 Victoria Ave. at Brandon University) — The Glen P. • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first, the AGSM boasts two art galleries, studios for youth and adult classes, a gift shop that supports more than 90 Manitoban artists and artisans. • Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. • ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa, in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.

• Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware merchant and prominent citizen in the community. • March 9 — Brandon University School of Music presents pro series: James Campbell, clarinet and Futaba Niekawa, piano, will perform at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. James Campbell has been called “Canada’s pre-eminent clarinetist and wind soloist” by the Toronto Star. Japanese pianist Futaba Niekawa, known for her verve and sensitivity, pushes the boundaries of her artistry as a soloist and collaborative pianist across genres and disciplines. Tickets are available at the door: $20 for adults and students. BU students and Conservatory of Music students are free.

• March 21 — The Assiniboine Community College Foundation Gala Dinner will be held in the historic Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts building in the North Hill campus. Proceeds of this event go toward new student awards for Women in our Public Safety Advanced Diploma program, which prepares graduates to become a superior candidate in a highly competitive recruiting process for police or other public safety agencies. The evening features a gourmet dining experience hosted by the talented culinary arts, baking foundations and hospitality students. • March 25-30 — The Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, held annually during Manitoba’s March spring break, is a tourism highlight in Western Canada. The RMWF is one of Western Canada’s largest agricultural events and the largest annual event to be held in Brandon and only one of two fairs in Canada to receive Royal designation from Queen Elizabeth II. At the fair, you can expect to see world-class show jumping, heavy horse competitions, livestock sales and displays, a quality hands-on agriculture education program, live entertainers, more than 300 commercial and agricultural exhibits and much more.
