Fusion Credit Union hosted the WoofJocks Canine All Stars at its Brandon branch on 18th Street Friday ahead of next week’s Royal Manitoba Winter Fair.
The All Stars’ performances are fully choreographed and specifically designed to incorporate elements of canine agility, obedience, tricks and flying disc.
Spokesperson Trent Cross said the event was to create awareness for the performances of the All Stars at the Winter Fair.
“We are proud to be the platinum sponsor of this year’s Manitoba Winter Fair and delighted to support the WoofJocks Canine All Stars,” Cross told the Sun. “The event featured a sneak preview of the upcoming week, with a couple of our dog handlers showcasing what’s in store.”
Some of the performances of the dogs at the event include “play dead,” “rebound,” “airplane” and “sit pretty,” among others.
The handlers, Cross said, have been working with these dogs for several years, some since the inception of the program.
Cross said there will be an estimated nine handlers at the fair, with performances scheduled for the afternoon, educational shows in the agricultural arena and evening performances.
“Fusion hosts a meet and greet after each afternoon performance in Salon A, where attendees can meet the handlers, performers and dogs, and even take photos with them,” he said. “Fusion will also have a booth in the UCT Pavilion.”
Business development manager Mike Csversko said the credit union’s partnership with the fair represents a shared commitment to supporting local initiatives.
“The Winter Fair has deep roots in the Westman communities, and we’re thrilled to be back again this year supporting the event,” Csversko said. “We have some fun activities planned at the booth and encourage everyone to stop by, play a game and win a prize.”
