BRANDON UNIVERSITY

The Department of Physics and Astronomy is hosting a solar eclipse viewing today from about 12:50 to 3 p.m., at the Louise Avenue doors of the John R. Brodie Science Centre. Two telescopes with solar filters will be set up, and protective solar glasses will be available for $1 each, on a first-come-first-served basis.

Brandon University students will present their research at the Senior Colloquium today, starting at 9 a.m., and running until 5 p.m. Twenty-three students will present on a wide range of topics in the Louis Riel Room. Visit BrandonU.ca/Colloquium for details on the sessions.

Join Kelly Paddock tonight for Alumni Knit Night, a delightful evening of yarn, laughter and creativity at Chez Angela. Bring your latest project or start something new while enjoying the cozy ambiance and delicious treats. All skill levels and all fibre arts are welcome. The event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Western Manitoba Science Fair will take place on Tuesday at the Healthy Living Centre. Public viewing is open from 2 to 4 p.m.

Brandon University students have organized a symposium about women working in the criminal justice system, planned for Tuesday. Participants will include local women from justice careers, including a judge, a police constable, a corrections officer, re-intigration specialists from the John Howard Society and a specialist in restorative justice. The symposium is open to all, and takes place from 3:30 to 8 p.m., in the Gathering Space of the John E. Robbins Library. A reception will follow the formal agenda.

The end of the winter term is rapidly approaching, with final exams beginning on Wednesday and running until Saturday, April 20. Many School of Music students are also performing their year-end recitals. A list of those recitals is available at BrandonU.ca/Music.

Diana Nyad sets out, at age 60, to achieve a nearly impossible lifelong dream by swimming from Cuba to Florida in “Nyad,” showing this weekend at the Evans Theatre. Showings start at 7:30 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Admission is $6.

Former Humboldt Broncos coach Chris Beaudry, University of Winnipeg professor Jan DeFehr and Wildflower Alliance director Sera Davidow will be the keynote speakers for the Mental Health on the Prairies Conference, coming up from April 24 to 26. The conference will include a series of speakers, along with presentations from researchers and mental health partners across Canada. Visit BrandonU.ca/MHP for more information.
