Dauphin RCMP reported several traffic stops that led to the seizure of drugs and guns over the long weekend, including more than 108 grams of cocaine and 105 grams of methamphetamine.
On Friday, around 8:40 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Mountain Road with two of three occupants under outstanding arrest warrants.
All three were arrested after police allegedly discovered meth, cocaine, a cutting agent, Tramadol pills, paraphernalia and cash in both Canadian and U.S. currencies.
Leslie McKay, 42, and Robert Chartrand, 46, of Pine Creek First Nation as well as April Bull, 28, of Dauphin were charged with possession of meth and cocaine for the purposes of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.
Around 7 p.m. on Saturday, also on Mountain Road, another vehicle was stopped with one passenger inside subject to an outstanding warrant.
Inside that vehicle, police say they found meth, crack cocaine, Gabapentin pills, drug paraphernalia and money.
Three people from Ebb and Flow First Nation — Brian Houle, 39, Sherise Hunter, 33, and an unnamed 45-year-old man — were arrested on charges of possession of crack cocaine and meth for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.
Houle and Hunter were remanded into custody, while the 45-year-old man was released with a future court date.
Early Sunday, around 2:05 a.m., police stopped two vehicles on Second Street Southwest and arrested all six occupants after the discovery of cocaine, meth, a baton, an imitation handgun, a sawed-off rifle and cash.
Then, around 9:35 p.m. on Sunday, police arrested a 25-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy after their vehicle was stopped and they fled.
After tracking down the pair, police say they found cocaine, psilocybin, drug paraphernalia and bear spray on the man, charging him with possession for the purpose of trafficking both cocaine and psilocybin, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The boy was allegedly found with bear spray and was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Both the man and the boy were released with a future court date.
In a statement, Dauphin RCMP detachment commander Staff Sgt. Scott Linklater touted the benefits of increased traffic enforcement.
“Increased traffic enforcement does not only result in safer roads, but it gets drugs and guns off the streets of our community,” Linklater said.
“Illicit drugs and everything that comes along with it — the firearms, the gang connections, the associated criminal activity — means more crime in the City of Dauphin and the surrounding communities.
“We remain committed to enforcing against illicit drugs to their fullest extent.”
