A tornado warning has been issued for the RM of Elton, just north of Brandon, and the Municipality of Pembina, with Environment Canada saying meteorologists are “tracking a severe thunderstorm that is producing a tornado.”
The warnings were issued just after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
A meterologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada told the SUn that tornadoes have been reported near Rivers, Rapid City and near La Rivière.
People in the area are advised to take cover immediately, ideally in a room on the lowest floor of a building away from walls and windows.
The storm is said to be east of Rivers, travelling southeast at 20 km/h.
The tornado alert says the storm could produce hail as big as a golf ball to as big as a baseball.
