Day — Miniature Horse and Shetland Show will be held this weekend in the Indoor Show Ring at the Westoba Agricultural Centre of Excellence.

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Brandon Farmers’ Market at The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave.). Baking, jams and jellies, pickling, yarn, bison, beef, beeswax candles, crafts and more. This event runs year-round.

1:30 p.m. — Dauphin’s Countryfest Vol. 35! This year’s festival will be a journey back in time featuring country, folk, rock and other genres of music. Countryfest and the Indigenous Music Development Program at Manitoba Music are also shining a spotlight on featured artists at the second edition of the Nipin (Summer) Showcase throughout the weekend. Credit Union Corral events kick off at 1:30 p.m.; Countryfest Hilltop Stage at 2 p.m. and Main Stage events at 4:30 p.m. Tonight’s main entertainment features The Great Canadian Road Trip with Jason McCoy, Doc Walker and Michelle Wright followed by Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Clint Black. Take in the fur trader’s cannon and musket displays. Candlelight Camp Tour from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. Programs are free to attend. Adults must accompany children 12 and under.

MONDAY

10 a.m. — Friends of Riding Mountain National Park invite you to join them as they celebrate Canada Day. They will be handing out Canada flags and pins and doing tattoos at the Friends Learning Centre (154 Columbine St.) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a magic show in the Park Theatre at 1:30 p.m. with tickets $5 (kids under five are free). Entertainment takes place on the Bandstand in the afternoon.

10 a.m. — Celebrate Canada Day at the Riverbank Discovery Centre. Entertainment on the Fusion Credit Union Stage begins at 10 a.m. with opening ceremonies at 1 p.m, followed by a flyover. Canadian folk and country musician Valdy takes the stage at 2 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. with many other musical acts in between and closing out with Just For Kicks and Full Flannel Jacket. Food trucks on site, children’s area, Karlheinz the Bubbleman, Indigenous performances, farmers’ market, Voyageur canoe rides and more. Fireworks at 11 p.m. Note that there is no ATM on site.

Noon — Canada Day car show will take place at Minnedosa Beach until 4 p.m.

1 p.m. — Canada Day activities in Virden will take place at Victoria Park. Opening ceremonies and free cake to follow. Parade at noon. There will also be kids games and activities, laser tag, cornhole tourney, scavenger hunt, beer gardens, entertainment food vendors and outdoor market. Evening entertainment features Along For The Ride. Fireworks take place at the ball diamonds at dusk. Free admission. Bring your own lawn chairs. For more details, call 204-748-2440.

4 p.m. — Canada Day celebrations at CFB Shilo are held at Building L25 (Tete DuPoint Rd.) featuring family fun activities, live entertainment, food trucks, beer gardens (cash only) and of course fireworks. Family activities include bubble soccer, laser and archery tag, mechanical surfboard, gladiator joust, soccer darts, axe throwing and much more. Entertainment by The Street Circus at 6 p.m.; live wrestling featuring Jacques (The Mountie) Rougeau and guest.

6:30 p.m. — UCT Bingo takes place every Monday at 205 College Ave. Doors open at 4 p.m., with early bird start at 6:30 p.m. and regular games at 7:10 p.m. Canteen available. Proceeds stay in Brandon for needs in the community. Come enjoy a fun evening at minimal cost.

3 p.m. — Come saddle up for an unforgettable Cowboy Supper Trail Ride at Lucky Break Ranch in Rivers. Experience the Old West come to life as you embark on a scenic horseback ride through picturesque trails. Whether you’re a seasoned cowboy or have no horse experience at all and are looking for an authentic Western experience, our Cowboy Supper Trail Ride is sure to be a highlight of your summer. 7:30 p.m. — Canada Day celebrations at Poor Michael’s Emporium (322 Highway 10, Onanole) will include a fun evening with Billy Ace and Friends rocking it out on the patio. 6:30 p.m. — Every Tuesday, all summer long, join us for Music in the Park (Princess Park). Free admission.

WEDNESDAY

10:15 a.m. — Drop by the Brandon Shoppers Mall Library Branch for Wiggly Wednesday, a storytime program for children ages 0-5. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a caregiver.

1 to 4 p.m. — Join members of the Brandon Scrabble Club for an afternoon of Scrabble, coffee and laughs at the Brandon Public Library. Scrabble boards are provided, and all levels of skill are welcome to attend. No registration is required.

1:30 to 3:30 p.m. — The Brandon Embroiderers meet weekly to share their love of needlework, learn new skills and stitch together. All levels and abilities are welcome to attend. Call Dianne at 204-725-1445 or Darlene at 204-727-1624 for more info.

6 to 8 p.m. — Wednesday Knights at Chez Angela Bakery and Café (Unit C, 29 10th St.). The Brandon Knights Chess Club meets on Wednesday evenings. All skill levels are welcome.

MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — In honour of RCAF’s 100th anniversary, the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War, has switched to summer hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week at the Brandon Municipal Airport. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display area for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. RCAF members who lost their lives during the Second World War are honoured on the museum’s RCAF Memorial wall.

Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Currently on exhibit is “The Sound of History: Bands and Musicians of Western Manitoba” until Sept. 7. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Our Second World War vehicle exhibit includes eight military vehicles used by Canadians during the Second World War. Military vehicles provided firepower, logistical support, mobility and protection for the Canadian Army, enhancing their effectiveness during the Second World War. Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first, the AGSM boasts two art galleries, studios for youth and adult classes and a gift shop that supports more than 90 Manitoban artists and artisans. In the Main Gallery: “Of Armour Bespoke, Of Fabric, Of Skin, Of Within.” In the Community Gallery: “Dysphoria,” running until Aug. 10. Hours: 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. For more information, visit agsm.ca.

Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed all statutory holidays. Special tours can be arranged by calling the arts administrator at 204-554-0023. 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.

Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. Guided tours and visits are Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Admission by donation. Booking in advance is strongly recommended. Phone 204-717-1514 or email bgmainfo@wcgwave.ca.

ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.

Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware and lumber merchant and prominent citizen in the community. The main house depicts how a family in the Victorian era would have lived. We also have two additional annexes and a coach house available for viewing. July 3 — Join us at Daly House Museum as our Summer Fun Program kicks off today from 2 to 4 p.m. Today we are featuring Indigenous Crafts Day honouring Indigenous identity and culture. July 4 — Music in the Park at Virden begins for the summer today on the Jubilee Stage at Virden’s Victoria Park (7th Ave. and Seymour St. W.) In case of rain, it will be held in the Legion Hall (540 8th St. S.) Music starts at 7 p.m. Today features Dan Kristof.

July 4 — Cruise Night takes place in downtown Brandon on Rosser Avenue between Sixth Street and 13th Street. People wishing to show their vehicles are encouraged to enter the event at the intersection of Rosser Avenue and 13th Street. All vehicles are welcome. Free for participants and spectators. Presented by Brandon & Area Car Enthusiasts (BACE), Kelleher Ford, Cal Jackson of Integral Realty and Off The Wall Signs.

July 4 — City of Brandon Parks & Recreation Services is proud to bring the winner of the 2023 Modern Country Song of the Year at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Roblin, Manitoba’s own Ryan Keown featuring Austin Ryder to the Fusion Credit Union Stage at the Riverbank Discovery Centre at 6:30 p.m. This concert is free and open to all to attend.

July 5 — Wasagaming Community Arts presents a Kick Off To Summer dinner and dance at Sportsman’s Park. Featuring live music by Lunch Money, a 50/50 raffle with lots of exciting prizes and amazing food. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased Sporty’s, Wasagaming Community Arts. Support tickets can be purchased for $20 fundraising for the WCA Art Programs and Exhibitions.

July 5-7 — Come and celebrate Rivers and Area Community Foundation’s 15th Anniversary with “Rollin’ into Rivers.” July 5: Class of 74 Reunion at the Rivers Legion at noon with other classes invited to join after 2 p.m. Beer gardens and music. Merv’s Pitchfork Fondue at the Legion (pre-paid). July 6: High Rollin’ Road Rally with registration at 10 a.m. kids family day, touch a truck, fundraising barbecue, beer gardens and music, kids’ bicycle parade, fundraising beef on a bun, CJ’s Hootenanny at Rivers Provincial Park and fireworks at dusk. July 6 — Come to Killarney and join us to kick off summer with and outdoor concert with Brett Kissel. The concert takes place at the Agricultural grounds (50 Water Ave.) and features five pre-show bands as well: Justin LaBrash, Tanglebox, Sentinel, Hicktown and Mike Sacharko Band. July 6 — Westman Drama Ministries is proud to present our first teen/young adult musical, “Freaky Friday: The One Act Edition,” at Calvary Temple (620 34th St.) at 2 and 7 p.m. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to each performance. July 6 — Join us for a Community barbecue with Funds for Furry Friends at the Dufresne location (1885 18th St. N.) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will be serving up hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and a drink for $5. July 7 — A car show will be held at Sand Hills Casino. Spectators are welcome. Admission is free. Registered participants are eligible for ballot draws and cash prizes, a limited T-shirt and free barbecue lunch. Registration starts at 9 a.m. Gold Club members also receive free barbecue lunch.
