TODAY

6:30 a.m. — The 130th annual Hamiota Agricultural Fair kicks off with a pancake breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., followed by the parade at 9 a.m. Other activities include livestock shows of light and heavy horses and cattle, a petting farm, mini-golf tournament, Mario Kart tournament, kids’ carnival, Ryan Price Comedy Magic Show, cold plate supper, Midwest U18AAA ball game, beach volleyball tournament and much more.

10:15 to 11 a.m. — Storytime at the Brandon Public Library (710 Rosser Ave.) for ages 18 months to five years of age takes place every Thursday. The presence of a caregiver or parent is required. No registration necessary.

11 a.m. — The Women’s Resource Centre hosts a fundraiser barbecue at Princess Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For $5, you get a hotdog, chips and a drink. There’s also a $10 option to pay it forward — purchase your lunch plus a lunch for a community member in need.

3:30 p.m. — The Heritage Co-op, Brandon and Memory Lane Car Club charity barbecue and car show will be held at the Heritage Co-op Richmond location (1035 Richmond Ave.) from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Open to all show vehicles and motorcycles. Show vehicles can park on the east side of the parking lot. Sales from the barbecue to be donated to the pediatric ward at Brandon Regional Health Centre. 7 p.m. — Join us at Callaghan’s Food and Entertainment (43 Main St., Carberry) for a comedy show with Nelson Mayer and Clayton T. Stewart — the dynamic duo behind The Bad Apples. Tickets are $25 and available at Callaghan’s. Doors open at 7 p.m.; show at 8 p.m.

7 p.m. — Music in the Park on the Jubilee Stage at Virden’s Victoria Park (Seventh Avenue and Seymour Street West). Tonight’s music performed by Michelle Chyzyk & Friends. In case of rain, it will be held in the Legion hall (540 8th St. South).

7:30 p.m. — Leaf Rapids, a Winnipeg band featuring Keri Latimer, Devin Latimer, Joanna Miller and Chris Dunn, performs on the patio at Poor Michael’s Emporium (322 Highway 10 in Onanole). Advance tickets are $25. Call 204-848-0336 for more information or visit us on Facebook.

FRIDAY

6:30 a.m. — The Harding Ag Society Fair kicks off with a pancake breakfast from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m., followed by light horse and miniature horse shows and a beef cattle show featuring Manitoba Angus Gold Show. Exhibition building opens at noon. A cold plate lunch and supper will be served by the Harding Community Club. Pole bending and MBRA starts at 6:30 p.m.

7:30 a.m. — Manitoba Stampede and Exhibition in Morris begins with a pancake breakfast at 7:30 a.m., other events include a Powwow demonstration at noon, pony chariot and chuckwagon racing and the RCMP Musical Ride at 2 p.m., and Manitoba’s only Professional Rodeo at 7 p.m. The pro-rodeo event is part of the Canadian Tour circuit and features the top names in bull riding, bronco-busting, tie-down roping, bareback riding and steer wrestling. Ground access (general admission to the fair, beer gardens, vendors and midway) are free of charge. For tickets to the Grandstand Show and Rodeo and a complete schedule, visit manitobastampede.ca.

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Brandon Farmers’ Market takes place every Friday at The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave.), featuring fresh produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, crafts, beeswax candles and more. Runs year-round.

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. — Westman Immigration Services and the Brandon Downtown BIZ are hosting a Downtown Summer Market on Fridays at 1001 Pacific Ave. featuring food trucks, local vendors and homemade goods.

11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. — Barbecue in support of 2024 Tools for School Program at Murray Chevrolet (1500 Richmond Ave.) For $5, you get you a hotdog, chips and a drink.

5 p.m. to 11 p.m. — The Salamander Summer Music Festival at Rideau Park (305 Park St.), featuring live music, food trucks, a mocktail lounge and licensed area for beer and alcohol sales, a kids area, artisans, crafters, vendors and more. 7 p.m. — The 136th annual Oak Lake Agricultural Society Fair takes place over the weekend. Tonight features live music at the Hall featuring Straight Up Country, $15 admission. Fireworks at dusk.

SATURDAY

All day — The 136th annual Oak Lake Agricultural Society Fair takes place with the Valleyview Co-op pancake breakfast at 7 a.m., a ranch horse competition, mini horse show, parade, light horse show, bacon chase, slo-pitch tournament, beef show, kids’ activities, beer gardens and MGRA.

All day —Manitoba Stampede and Exhibition in Morris begins with a parade at 10 a.m., other events midway, Manitoba’s only Professional Rodeo at 2 p.m., and pony chuckwagon and chariot racing and the RCMP Musical Ride at 7 p.m. Ground access (general admission to the fair, beer gardens, vendors and midway) is free. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. — The Riverbank Discovery Centre Farmers’ Market (545 Conservation Dr.) features 37 full-time and part-time vendors offering a wide range of products. Event runs on Saturdays until the end of September.

10 a.m. — Yoga by the Lake at the main beach in Riding Mountain National Park. This is an all-levels community yoga class in collaboration with Parks Canada. Suggested donation $15, with all proceeds donated to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — The Minnedosa Agricultural Society Fair featuring horse and pony shows, heavy horse classes and the home living section in the Display Building. Canteen on grounds each day. Light breakfast available. No gate admission, but donations gratefully accepted.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Self-guided tour of some of Brandon’s most beautiful private gardens. Get your free passport containing the participating gardens at brandon.ca/open-gardens or at The Greenspot, Livingstone Outdoor, Forbidden Flavours, Brydges or Brandon Riverbank.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Sandy Lake Street Market takes place at 127 Main St.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Rawhide and Jelly Roll Makers Market (110 Wasagaming Dr.) Stroll through the Onanole Recreation Centre and meet the makers and artists behind their products. There will be jewellers, painters, candle-makers, woodworkers and many more talented local artists.

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Mid-Day Street Party on Neepawa’s Bourke Street (beside ArtsForward) featuring live music from local award-nominated band Midnight Renegade, live art displays, barbecue and more.

2 p.m. — Pilates and Plants class at Alternative Choice Garden Centre (34th and Patricia). Immerse yourself in the serene and uplifting atmosphere of a greenhouse setting, where you’ll experience a thoughtfully crafted blend of movements suitable for all bodies, ages, and abilities. MONDAY

8:45 a.m. — The Riverbank Discovery Centre is running a Swamp Camp for the following weeks: July 22-26; July 29-Aug 2; Aug. 12-16 and Aug. 19-23. This outdoor adventure is for children aged six to nine features outdoor exploration, crafts, activities and experiments. 1 to 4 p.m. — Join members of the Brandon Scrabble Club for an afternoon of Scrabble, coffee and laughs at the Brandon Public Library. Scrabble boards are provided, and all levels of skill are welcome to attend. No registration is required.

6 p.m. — The Erickson and District Chamber of Commerce is proud to present the world-famous RCMP Musical Ride at 37 Queen Elizabeth Ave. in Clanwilliam-Erickson. A team of 21 riders and horses bring you a truly spectacular performance showcasing their equestrian skill through a variety of formations and cavalry drills set to music. Also available during the day will be an Artisans Market at the curling club, local food vendors. Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — In honour of the RCAF’s 100th anniversary, the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War, has switched to summer hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week at the Brandon Municipal Airport. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display area for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. RCAF members who lost their lives during the Second World War are honoured on the museum’s RCAF Memorial wall.

Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Currently on exhibit is “The Sound of History: Bands and Musicians of Western Manitoba” until Sept. 7. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Our Second World War vehicle exhibit includes eight military vehicles used by Canadians during the Second World War. Military vehicles provided firepower, logistical support, mobility and protection for the Canadian Army, enhancing their effectiveness during the Second World War. Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first, the AGSM boasts two art galleries, studios for youth and adult classes and a gift shop that supports more than 90 Manitoban artists and artisans. In the Main Gallery: “Of Armour Bespoke, Of Fabric, Of Skin, Of Within.” In the Community Gallery: “Dysphoria,” running until Aug. 10. Hours: 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free to visit the AGSM. For more information, visit agsm.ca.

Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed all statutory holidays. Special tours can be arranged by calling the arts administrator at 204-554-0023. 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.

Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. Guided tours and visits are Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Admission by donation. Booking in advance is strongly recommended. Phone 204-717-1514 or email bgmainfo@wcgwave.ca.

ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.

Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware and lumber merchant and prominent citizen in the community. The main house depicts how a family in the Victorian era would have lived. We also have two additional annexes and a coach house available for viewing. Events include Ride ‘n Roll Vintage Powersports Expo, Rodeo, Pioneer Power Parade, a performance by the RCMP Musical Ride, and hands-on demonstrations and fun educational experiences. July 26-28 — Dakota Oyate Wacipi (Sioux Valley Dakota Nation) Powwow celebrates the rich heritage, traditions and talents of Indigenous peoples from across the region.

July 27 — Prairie Wires’ Summer Sound Series continues at Section 6 Brewing Company from 2 to 4 p.m. Music provided by Scatterpattern, Harrumph! and Alexander Canada.

July 27 — The Great Brandon Mystery (Family Edition) a competitive mystery solving program will see teams of 2-5 race against time to solve one of Brandon’s greatest mysteries. Participants will travel around solving challenging clues and puzzles, and complete challenges. It runs from 1 to 4 p.m. $25 for individuals; $100 for teams. July 27 — The Dust Rhinos, a high-energy Celtic folk rock band from Winnipeg, performs at 7:30 p.m. on the patio at Poor Michael’s (Highway 10 Onanole). Enjoy this group’s unique sound that blends traditional Celtic music with modern rock and roll. Tickets are $25 and available at Poor Michael’s.

Aug. 9-11 — Banana Days in Melita featuring the banana train, free banana splits, golf tournament, 3&83 Cruisers Show n’ Shine, dinosaur inflatables, and performances by Clubbing Fraggles and The Mike Sacharko Band.

Aug. 12-21 — Introductory program for Pickleball basics and rules will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sportsplex Arena.
