A 24-year-old woman was charged with arson with disregard for human life on Saturday evening after allegedly setting a fire in a room at the Colonial Inn on Queens Crescent.
The fire caused the inn and its occupants to be evacuated.
According to a Brandon Police Service release issued Sunday, they received a report around 7:50 p.m. on Saturday that a woman had ransacked a room and damaged its door.

A few minutes later, police said they received another call reporting the fire.
When officers arrived, they arrested the woman. The release alleges that she assaulted her boyfriend and their child before damaging property in the room and setting the fire.
Police also allege that the woman stood outside the hotel while holding a weapon and uttering threats.
She was due to appear in court Sunday morning on charges of arson with disregard for human life, assault, mischief to property, possession of a dangerous weapon and uttering threats.
When the Sun went by the hotel early Sunday afternoon, one of the exterior windows on the east side of the building had a piece of plywood covering it.
Each room had an air conditioner mounted in a metal cage to the outside wall, except for the one with the covered window.
In its place, it looked like a fan was blowing air out of the room.
A member of the housekeeping staff confirmed it had been the room where the fire had taken place, though they didn’t know any further specifics.
A pair of men sitting on a bench outside the inn’s front entrance who identified themselves as wildfire evacuees said they had been put up for the night at the Lakeview Inn and Suites before being allowed to return Sunday.
When the Sun called the inn, a staff member said they were currently busy and no one was available to comment.
By phone, a BPS staff sergeant told the Sun that neither the boyfriend or child required medical attention.
