Assiniboine College will host an intake of the Comprehensive Health Care Aide program that begins in January 2025 in Virden.
The full-time certificate program has a capacity for 22 students, and an online information session for interested applicants will be held on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m., the college said in a press release on Monday.
Della Mansoff, academic chair of CHCA programs at Assiniboine, said the institution knows the vital role health-care aides play in the health-care system.

“The CHCA program is designed to develop graduates who are not only technically skilled but also dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those they care for,” Mansoff said.
“The need for skilled health-care aides is significant, and we believe this program will help meet that demand in the province while offering excellent career opportunities for individuals to explore. We appreciate the enthusiastic partnership from Prairie Mountain Health Region and the community in bringing this site to life.”
The release said the CHCA program teaches graduates practical skills to care for patients and to communicate in a clinical setting, while also learning how to help patients with their well-being and manage their health-care environment.
The college connects with government, community and regional health authority stakeholders regularly on rural CHCA programs and community sites such as Virden are a result of these consultations, the release said.
