A 55-year-old woman who is facing charges for abducting her three sons on two occasions — once in Ontario and again in Manitoba — was remanded into custody to be sent back to Ontario after appearing in Brandon court Thursday afternoon.

Astrid Schiller, 55, is facing three counts of child abduction after allegedly taking her three sons from a residence in Forest in June.

On June 16, Boissevain RCMP received a report that three children, who had been reported missing in December 2023 from Durham, Ont., were at the Boissevain border crossing.

Officers arrived, arrested the woman with the children — their mother — and took the children into care at a residence in Forrest.

Police arrested the woman on an outstanding warrant for child abduction from Durham Regional Police, but the woman was released from custody because the warrant was not extended into Manitoba.

The next day, Blue Hills RCMP received a report that the three children were missing from the Forrest home.

RCMP suspected that the woman took the three boys, aged 12, 11 and nine.

On Sept. 25, RCMP in Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask., received information that the woman and her three children were in the community.

Officers located and arrested the woman for child abduction in Manitoba. The three children were placed in care and are in the process of being reunited with family in Ontario, RCMP say.

Schiller will be transported back to Ontario to deal with her charges from that province.

Her child abduction charges in Manitoba remain before the court.
