POLICE STILL LOOKING FOR 1 SUSPECT
Brandon police said they are still looking for one of two suspects, accused of breaking and entering and uttering threats at a residence in the city’s west end. Officers responded to a report of threats being made on Sunday evening at a residence on Confederation Bay. They were told that two people had forced their way inside and threatened the occupants with bear spray before leaving. Officers located and arrested a 23-year-old man, and charged him with breaking and entering with intent, possession of a weapon and uttering threats. He was held overnight in a BPS detention cell with a court appearance scheduled for Monday morning. Police are still looking for the other suspect.
VEHICLE FIRE

Brandon Police and Brandon Fire and Emergency Services responded to calls reporting a vehicle fire on Clare Avenue on Brandon’s North Hill late on Sunday evening. When police arrived, they said witnesses had been able to help the owner get out of the vehicle and to safety. The man refused any medical attention, and the fire was determined to be non-suspicious. Officers added that the vehicle was stuck in the snow, and while the owner was trying to get it moving by repeatedly revving the motor, the fuel tank breached adding to the fire. Fire crews remained on the scene until the vehicle was towed.
CHARGED WITH THEFT
A loss prevention officer from a business in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue reported a theft from the store on Sunday afternoon, telling Brandon police that a 33-year-old man was the suspect. Police caught up with the man a block away as he was getting into a taxi. He was in possession of a small folding knife, which police said was in breach of two previous orders. The accused had also been told to not enter Brandon or that specific store, police said, adding that they recovered $145.25 in merchandise, which was returned to the store. Police held the man in a BPS detention cell overnight. He was scheduled for a court appearance on Monday morning.
BEEF JERKY AND CANDY THEFT
Police have charged a man with theft under $5,000 for allegedly stealing $100 worth of beef jerky and candy from a business in the 800 block of 1st Street on Monday morning at 3:43 am. The man was identified with the help of security footage, following which he was found and arrested in the area of 8th Street and Princess Avenue at 4:12 a.m. His next court appearance is on Feb. 6.
WOMAN DISOBEYS CURFEW
Brandon Police said they arrested a 24-year-old woman for breaking a 24-hour curfew on Saturday evening. The woman was seen shopping in a store in the 3400 block of Victoria Avenue. Officers arrested her on Sunday and held her overnight for a Monday morning appearance in court.
BAREFOOT WOMAN ARRESTED
Police arrested a 26-year-old woman seen running barefoot on Sunday evening in the 1500 block of 18th Street. The female was reported to be running in front of vehicles. Officers said she was located and taken for medical clearance. She was held in a BPS detention cell and released once sober.
