4 MEN CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

Following an assault on two male inmates — aged 37 years and 21 years — by five other inmates at the Brandon Correctional Centre in July this year, Brandon police have arrested a 24-year-old male. The accused was also lodged in the same facility and was charged with aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm. He appeared for a bail hearing on Dec. 11. Officers are also pursuing arrest warrants issued against four other male inmates involved in the assault, including two incarcerated in other institutions in the province and two that are currently not residing in Brandon. All four have also been charged with aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm. The two victims had sustained serious injuries during the attack and had to be rushed to the Brandon hospital for treatment. They were later released back to the Brandon Correctional Centre.

WOMAN ASSAULTED

Police were called on Wednesday morning to report a domestic assault that took place in the 800 block of Rosser Avenue. Once the officers arrived on scene, they could observe that a 33-year-old woman who had sustained bruises all over her face. A 41-year-old man reportedly struck her several times and tried to prevent her from leaving the apartment. The man was arrested and found to be in possession of a set of brass knuckles. He was held in a detention cell overnight and appeared in court on Thursday morning.

MAN ARRESTED

Police stopped a pedestrian in the first block of Ninth Street on Wednesday afternoon and found the man had an unendorsed warrant for arrest. The 33-year-old man was arrested and detained until his court hearing on Thursday morning.

DRUNK MAN AND WOMAN ARRESTED

Brandon police were alerted to two different instances of individuals causing a disturbance on Wednesday night. The first involved a 42-year-old intoxicated man found causing a disturbance at a residence on the 300 block of 18th Street North. The second instance involved a 43-year-old inebriated woman found causing some disruption at a property on the 1200 block of Rosser Avenue. Both were arrested, held in detention and released once sober.
