IN LOCAL HISTORY

60 YEARS AGO — Travellers dumped Elks 3-1 in a Juvenile League game. Bob Clark paced the winners with a pair of goals and Randy Earl added one. Dennis Dart fired the lone Elk’s goal.

50 YEARS AGO — The Junior B All- Stars skated to an 8-1 victory over East Kildonan-Transcona in the hockey final to represent Manitoba in the Canada Winter Games in Lethbridge. Minnedosa’s Dave LeBoutillier and Bob Russell of Brandon paced the winners with two goals each. Brent Vincent of Cartwright, Dwayne Kirkup of Souris and Bob Williamson of Belmont added singles.

40 YEARS AGO — Goals by Mark Stitt, Graham Kostiuk and Colin Hargreaves gave Keystone Motor Inn Outlaws a 3-0 win over Shoal Lake in a Shilo and District Men’s Broomball League game. Bernie Neufeld recorded the shutout.

20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings are importing some new talent from overseas for the second half of the WHL season. Highly touted 18-year-old Czech centre Jakub Sindel — a 2004 second-round NHL draft pick — is expected to check into the Wheat Kings lineup when they return from a 10-day Christmas break.
