The Redeemed Christian Church of God Restoration Parish, located at 1037 Leorne Ave., hosted its annual Children’s Christmas Celebration on Saturday, drawing over 170 excited children to its fellowship hall.
Pastor-in-charge Festus Eretan told the Sun the program has become a cherished tradition for the parish, emphasizing the significance of Christmas, fostering community spirit and celebrating the children’s growth in faith.
“Christmas is a season of joy and celebration,” Eretan said in an interview. “It commemorates the fulfillment of God’s promise — the birth of Jesus Christ. We want our children to understand that Jesus is the reason for the season. Everything about Him is joy, and this celebration reflects that.”

He explained the children’s enthusiasm has grown significantly over the years, adding the parish has witnessed a remarkable increase in participation, with attendance jumping more than half compared to 2023.
“God has multiplied His heritage among us,” he added.
Event co-ordinator Mosunmola Famakinwa told the Sun the day’s festivities were centered on games and activities designed to reinforce the children’s biblical knowledge.
“The children look forward to this event every year. It’s an opportunity for them to be themselves, engage in Bible-themed games, and win prizes. The highlight for many is the gift-giving and dancing,” she said.
“This year’s activities included Bible trivia, logical puzzles, and a maze challenge, all rooted in lessons learned throughout the year. These games not only entertained but also tested the children’s understanding of Scripture.”
Famakinwa expressed gratitude for the event’s growth, noting a leap from 110 children last year to approximately 170 this year.
However, she acknowledged challenges in planning, particularly in terms of human resources and preparedness. “While we saw an increase in support this year, there’s still room for improvement. We’re building structures in the department and trusting God to help us,” she said.
The celebration was “fully funded by the church,” with additional contributions from “generous parents.”

Eretan thanked the community for their support and invited others to experience the parish’s vibrant atmosphere.
“Jesus is the reason for the season,” he emphasized. “With Him, there is life and hope, no matter the situation.”
