A crash knocked down a traffic light and ripped the front end off an SUV on Wednesday afternoon in Brandon.

Emergency vehicles arrived at the site of the crash on the intersection of First Street and Victoria Avenue just before 3:30 p.m. A nearby parking lot at the First Victoria Mall was cordoned off with police tape, with tire treads leading toward it. A bunch of wires could be seen poking out from the ground, where a traffic light stood previously in front of the parking lot.

At around 4 p.m., the knocked over traffic light could be seen on the ground, straddling the middle of the intersection where the crash took place.

Brandon Police Service officers at the site wouldn’t comment on the crash or say whether anyone was injured. A fire truck and ambulances attended on site.

Multiple residents from the neighbourhood told the Sun they didn’t hear the crash despite being home at the time and being located directly across the street.

Several blocks of Victoria Avenue and First Street were closed off while an investigation was carried out.

The Sun has reached out to Brandon police for more information.
