A Canadian Pacific Kansas City train collided with a white truck about five kilometres east of Virden Sunday afternoon.
Manitoba RCMP spokesperson Paul Manaigre told the Sun officers from the Reston and Melita Detachments responded to the collision, which occurred at 2:50 p.m.
“The driver of the pickup truck suffered serious injuries,” Manaigre said in an email on Sunday afternoon.

A local firefighter in Virden told the Sun the department had limited information about the situation as of 4 pm.
“As far as I know, it’s about five kilometres east of Virden, south of Highway 1,” he said.
The cause of the collision has not yet been determined.
CPKC did not respond to the Sun’s email and call.
A witness told the Sun the vehicle, a white truck, was struck broadside by the train and pushed along the tracks before the train was able to stop.
“I got to the scene shortly after 3 p.m. The train was a long freight train carrying mostly shipping containers, with a single engine at the front,” he said.
“Emergency services, including ambulances, got to the scene around the same time I got there. I am not sure of the number of people in the truck, but the rescue team has taken an individual out of the vehicle as of 3:40 when I left the scene.”
