• 60 YEARS AGO — Boissevain’s Lad Hutchinson, dethroned last year after leading the SouthWest Hockey League in scoring for two seasons, is back in top spot for the current campaign. The Border Kings’ playing coach has collected 21 points in eight games.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Centre John Dell fired three goals and picked up four assists in Souris as North Division-leading Souris Elks whipped Virden Oil Kings 12-2 in a SouthWest Hockey League game. Dwayne Kirkup also got three goals and added three assists.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Betty Couling’s rink of third Dene McKay, second Gail Crane and lead Lois Fowler will represent Zone 6 next month at the Scott Tournament of Hearts in Winnipeg.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Rob Smith’s goal with 4:28 left in the game gave the Glenboro Nordics a 6-5 triumph over the Holland Rockets in a Tiger Hills Hockey League game. Jason Seaman, Syd Turner, Mark Bartmanovich, Mike Tosh and Kyle Gluska also scored for Glenboro.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Liza Park’s Brandon Curling Club team has won the women’s event of the Manitoba Curling Tour Championships. Park, with Jaimie Coxworth at third, Rhonda Ritchie at second and Heather Mowatt playing lead, knocked off Ainsley Champagne of Fort Rouge 5-3 in the final after dispatching Barb Spencer of Fort Rouge 8-5 in the semifinals.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Victoria Dakin had 11 kills and four aces as the Brandon University Bobcats opened the second semester of the Canada West women’s volleyball season with a 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-23, 25-8) win over the Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon.
