On Monday morning, Brandon Police Service (BPS) officers arrested a 57-year-old man following a traffic stop in a school zone near Maryland Avenue. Law enforcement identified that the man had an outstanding warrant for committing theft under $5,000. He was processed and released with a March 3 court date.

In another case, officers arrested a 53-year-old woman on Monday afternoon for stealing merchandise from a store located on the 2600 block of Victoria Avenue. Officers found the woman in the area, and the stolen goods were recovered from her possession. She was processed and released on an undertaking with a court of April 7.

MINOR ARRESTED FOR DISTRIBUTING VIDEO MADE WITHOUT CONSENT

A 17-year-old boy was arrested by BPS following a report of him having secretly recorded intimate video footage of a 16-year-old female and distributed the same to her and possibly another yet-to-be-identified person. The accused’s phone was seized upon arrest, and statements were obtained. He was later released with an undertaking and an April 8 court date.

MAN HELD FOR ATTEMPTED THEFT OF GRADER IN PORTAGE

Portage la Prairie RCMP arrested a 29-year-old man on Monday morning after receiving a report of someone trying to steal a municipal grader from the city’s public works garage. When officers attended the scene, they saw that the grader had been crashed into a fence, and the suspect was spotted close by. The accused, identified as Broderick Tkachyk, was arrested and taken to the Portage la Prairie RCMP detachment, where he allegedly got into an altercation with officers and EMS personnel and was said to be under the influence of drugs. He was then transported to a hospital for an evaluation of his non life-threatening injuries. Tkachyk was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired, theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of assaulting a police officer, and mischief of over $5,000. The RCMP’s investigation continues.
