Assiniboine College Cougars men’s volleyball coach Dan Ashfield didn’t take long to make his mark.

In just his second season as head coach, the former Brandon University Bobcats player was named Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference coach of the year on Thursday.

Ashfield took over a 5-13 Cougars squad, and after repeating the record in 2023-24, improve to 8-10 and came close to leading Assiniboine to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association national championship, falling in three narrow sets to the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers in the league semifinal on Saturday.
