60 YEARS AGOGordon Thompson, a member of the Riverdale Junior Rifle Club, received an Expert Shield recently, the highest award that can be given by Dominion Marksman. He scored 5,904 points out of a possible 6,000.

50 YEARS AGONancy Sharratt shattered a school scoring record and the undefeated Vincent Massey Vikings completed their Brandon high school varsity girls’ basketball season with a 77-18 victory over Neelin Spartans. Dori McPhail and Anne Thompson chipped in with 16 and 11 points respectively for the Vikings.

40 YEARS AGO Kevin Brugger scored 19 points as Crocus Plainsmen defeated Vincent Massey Vikings 64-43 in a Brandon High School Basketball league junior varsity boys’ playoff game. Jason Epp added 12 points for Crocus and Garth Thomson helped out with 10.

30 YEARS AGOMike McEwen’s Crocus Plains team beat Westgate’s Harold Schellenberg 12-2 in qualifying for the provincial high school curling championship. McEwen’s teammates were third Geordie Hargreaves, second Paul Grambo and lead Matt Coutts.

20 YEARS AGOJustin Wright and Brennen Giroux both scored twice to lead the Swan Valley Stampeders to a 6-3 victory over the Neepawa Natives in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League on Friday night.

10 YEARS AGO — Hartney’s Casey Bertholet scored 43.15 points on her free skate at the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, B.C., on Wednesday and fell out of a medal position. Bertholet placed sixth overall in the pre-novice female figure skating event with a total score of 76.69.
