60 YEARS AGO — Souris Collegiate girls roared to 41-19 triumph over Deloraine in the first game of the Zone 9 total-point semi-final basketball series. Wendy Kachanoski paced the winners with 12 points while Cheryl Stewart scored 10, Marlene Swan eight and Pat Hart seven.

50 YEARS AGO — Deloraine Royals defeated Waskada Comets 8-6 in a SouthWest Hockey League game. Neil Melnyk paced the Royals with three goals while Bruce Stephens added two.

40 YEARS AGOLarry Gerelus’ goal with 1:19 left in overtime lifted Shoal Lake Eagles to a 6-5 win over Kenton Cougars in a NorthCentral Hockey League playoff game. Rick Nychuk, Garth Short, Ashley Barlow, Robin Kimpinski and Scott Ross also scored for the Eagles who swept the best-of-three South Division semifinal series.

20 YEARS AGO Tyson Ramsey scored three goals and assisted on another as the Souris Elks opened their best-of-five SouthWest Hockey League semifinal with an 8-4 win over the Brandon Stingers in Souris.

10 YEARS AGO — The Brandon University Bobcats are represented at CIS nationals this week, but are limited to spectator status only. With BU’s women’s team set to host the 2016 CIS volleyball championship, Bobcat coaches and officials are scouting the men’s nationals in Saskatoon and women’s nationals in Toronto as they begin preparing to step into the national sports spotlight next year.
