Public intoxication

According to Brandon Police Service, officers arrested four people for being intoxicated in public, after responding to four separate calls in a 24-hour period.

Two incidents involved disturbances at local businesses, another response was in connection with a woman wandering in traffic, and the fourth was a woman who was unable to care for herself, said police.

One of the people was served a ticket for consuming liquor in public, but all four were taken into custody and arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act, which allows a peace officer to take a person into custody who is intoxicated in a public place. Police say all four individuals were held until sober.

Breaching the peace

Over a 24-hour span, Brandon police officers responded to four incidents that resulted in four arrests for people who breached the peace. Three of those calls, police say, involved individuals who were highly intoxicated. The fourth person was agitated and angry.

All four people were arrested, held in a BPS detention cell to prevent further issues and released once sober and calm.

Arrest warrants

A 31-year-old woman who had outstanding arrest warrants from Brandon and Winnipeg police was found by Brandon police officers in the 400 block of Ninth Street at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers arrested then released the 31-year-old woman who was given two appearance notices for court โ€” one in Brandon on March 27, and one in Winnipeg on May 6.

Additionally, Brandon officers arrested a 31-year-old man Wednesday afternoon at a residence in the first block of 21st Street North. The warrant for his arrest was for failing to attend court, police said. The man was taken to a BPS detention cell and held until a scheduled court appearance Thursday morning.

On Wednesday afternoon, a 35-year-old woman surrendered to police at BPS headquarters, aware that there was a warrant for her arrest. According to police, the warrant was for failing to comply with probation. She was released and given a notice to appear in court on Thursday.
