All four Brandon teams are in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference playoffs for the first time.
On the women’s side, the Assiniboine College Cougars and Brandon University Bobcats clinched their spots weeks ago. The men came down to the final day of the regular season.
Assiniboine punched its ticket with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Brandon at Crocus Plains on Saturday.

Danylo Denysevych scored AC’s first goal and assisted on the other by Dima Golovchenko, with Rodrigo Melgar replying for BU. The loss meant the Bobcats — who started the day with a 6-3 win over the Providence Pilots — had to hope the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers beat or tied the Pilots in the afternoon.
CMU scored late to win 6-5 after leading 4-1 in the first half.
The Bobcat women beat the Cougars 11-3 and the Pilots 8-7 to lock up the top seed.
Assiniboine lost its other game 11-0 to St. Boniface and will play Brandon in the semifinals on March 15 as the No. 4 seed. It’s AC’s first time in the women’s playoffs after it picked up three regular-season victories to secure the berth. Providence and St. Boniface meet in the other game.
The Cougars host the final four, where the men are the No. 3 seed taking on the Blazers, with the Bobcats facing the top-seed Les Rouges in the other game.
BU was originally supposed to host Saturday’s games, but the gymnasiums were booked for a club volleyball tournament. AC offered its gym for BU to act as host, but a leaking roof left the facility unsafe for play.
The current plan is to resolve the roof issue in time for the March 15-16 championships.
