• 60 YEARS AGO — A sizzling point shot by defenceman Larry Pearson midway through the third period gave the Waskada Comets a slim 7-6 win over Decker and a berth in the MAHA Intermediate B final. Bill Hainsworth was the big gun for the winners as he rifled home a hat trick.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Jack Brawn’s three-goal performance propelled the Boissevain Border Kings to a 6-3 upset victory over the Pierson Bruins in the first game of the best-of-five SouthWest Hockey League quarterfinals. Greg Cameron added two goals for Boissevain and Myles Dalrymple a single.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Scott Draper guided the Crocus Plainsmen to a 50-45 win over the Vincent Massey Vikings for their eighth consecutive Brandon High School Basketball League championship. Draper scored 15 points, including seven of Crocus’ 11 fourth-quarter points, and pulled down 13 rebounds.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Keith Vassell scored 44 points and pulled down 16 rebounds as the Brandon University Bobcats beat Saskatoon’s ECL Hoop Dancers 126-123 in overtime in men’s exhibition basketball action. Scott Kenney added 34 points for BU.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Warren Jacobson scored 25 points to lead the Neelin Spartans to an 80-72 triumph over the Yorkton Raiders.
