50 YEARS AGO — Brandon Clubs, playing only five players, puffed their way to an 81-58 win over Winnipeg Niakwa in the first game of the Intermediate men’s provincial basketball tournament. Bill Moody led the Clubs with 24 points while teammate Jerry Hemmings added 21.

40 YEARS AGOHoward Hole and Tim Janz scored twice as Boissevain beat the Spectrum Sportsmen 7-4 to open the South West Hockey League final.

30 YEARS AGO — Brandon edged Parkland 3-2 to take a 2-1 lead in the best- of-five Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League final.

20 YEARS AGOIsaac Friesen scored three times as the Killarney Shamrocks beat the Pierson Bruins 6-2 Sunday to claim the Hockey Manitoba senior C championship. Kevin McAuley added two goals and Adam Armstrong rounded out the scoring for the Shamrocks, who won the best-of-three final 2-1.

10 YEARS AGOTim McGauley had a goal and an assist in the clinching game to finish the first round, lifting the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 3-2 overtime win over the Edmonton Oil Kings.
