RCMP SAY MAN TOSSED HANDGUN AFTER FLEEING

A Dauphin man faces weapon and drug charges after allegedly fleeing from police and trying to dispose of a loaded handgun.

Dauphin RCMP say officers were conducting patrols on Main Street around 3:15 p.m. on Sunday and recognized a male pedestrian as being on an unendorsed warrant.

They attempted to arrest the man, but he fled.

Pursuing the man on foot, police say officers observed him searching through a satchel he was wearing, pulling a handgun out and throwing it on the roof of the nearest building.

Officers caught up with the suspect, arresting him without incident, and retrieved a loaded handgun from the roof of the building.

Police say they also seized crack cocaine, a large amount of Canadian currency and illicit pills from the suspect.

Jayden Peters, 21, has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorised possession of a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime and resisting arrest, as well as other weapon offences.

Peters was remanded into custody, and the investigation continues.

REMOVAL LEADS TO ARREST

Brandon police assisted with the removal a 28-year-old man from a building on the 700 block of Princess Avenue Monday evening.

At 9:38 p.m., security personnel from a building requested police assistance in connection with a banned individual.

When officers arrived, they discovered the man was the subject of outstanding arrest warrants for failing to attend court, theft under $5,000 and failing to provide police with his fingerprints, according to a BPS media release.

The man was arrested and held in a detention cell to prevent further disturbance. He was scheduled to be released Tuesday morning and given a court date of May 12.

PROBATION ORDER DISOBEYED

A 40-year-old woman was taken into custody after Brandon police responded to a call on the 800 block of Richmond Avenue Monday at 7:52 p.m.

A woman was causing a disturbance by banging on the window of a home, police say, adding she was under a court order not to be in communication with the resident.

Police say the woman was intoxicated by drugs.

After she was medically cleared, she was held in a BPS detention cell until sober. Her court date is June 9.

SASKATCHEWAN MAN ARRESTED

Brandon police arrested a Saskatchewan man after officers stopped a vehicle Monday afternoon in the 500 block of Second Street.

Police say when the vehicle was pulled over at 3:43 p.m., officers discovered the 29-year-old male driver was under a court order not to communicate with the 21-year-old female passenger.

The man was arrested, charged with failing to comply with an undertaking and held in a BPS detention cell for a Tuesday morning appearance in court.
