WOMAN CHARGED WITH ARSON
Brandon police have charged a 31-year-old woman with arson in connection with an early-morning fire that occurred in August 2023 at a home in the city’s west end.
At about 3:28 a.m. on Aug. 14, 2023, Brandon police responded to a fire at the rear of a home on Christie Bay.
Brandon Fire and Emergency Services was not able to determine any logical source of the fire and the blaze was initially deemed non-suspicious, Brandon Police Service said in a media release.
The release said accusations were made of a possible suspect, and investigators later learned that the accused was present at the scene of the fire.
The file was sent to the Crown attorney’s office, which advised police to proceed with a charge of arson with disregard for human life.
The accused woman surrendered at BPS headquarters and was released with a June 16 court date.
SHIRTLESS MAN WANTED BY RCMP
Brandon police arrested a 33-year-old man wanted by Swan River RCMP after responding to call about a shirtless man lying in an ATM vestibule.
Police were called at 12:02 p.m. Tuesday to the 600 block of 18th Street, between McTavish and Van Horne avenues.
When officers arrived and identified the man, they discovered he was the subject of an outstanding RCMP arrest warrant for failing to attend court.
He was arrested and taken to a BPS detention cell for a Wednesday morning appearance in court.
