Katie Bell went 4-for-4 at the plate and stole three bases as the Neelin Spartans beat the Crocus Plainsmen 13-2 to open the Brandon High School Softball League season at Ashley Neufeld Softball Complex on Thursday afternoon.
Ava Keller threw eight strikeouts for Crocus while Grace Mohr-Clark went 2-for-2.
Neelin’s Olivia Koscielny earned the win, throwing five strikeouts. Kennedy Smith also stole three bases for the Spartans, who are back in action on Wednesday in a rescheduled game against the Vincent Massey Vikings.

All games are at ANSC at 4:15 p.m.
PLAINSMEN RUGBY GIRLS WIN OPENER
Rebecca Alebiosu scored four tries as the Plainsmen varsity girls beat their JV team 71-0 in Westman High School Rugby action on Thursday.
Beverly Maloney, Zhenaya Singfat and Erin-Rose McGarvey each added two tries while Chloe Lourenco kicked four converts.
WHSR teams are back in action at the John Keogh Rugby Festival on Saturday at John Reilly Field.
League play resumes with Vincent Massey visiting Souris on Tuesday. The boys’ match between the Vikings and Sabres follows, opening their regular season.

Meanwhile, in Brandon High School Soccer League action, Crocus blanked Neelin 4-0 in the opener. Goal scorers were not available.
Massey visits Crocus on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
