EDMONTON – Thick, black smoke from a grass fire in west Edmonton has shut down sections of a major city roadway.

A social media post from 511 Alberta, the province’s traveler information service, says the west leg of Anthony Henday Drive is closed due to smoke in the area.

Drivers are being asked to proceed with caution or consider alternative routes.

Edmonton police say several businesses have been evacuated and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
