IN LOCAL HISTORY
• 50 YEARS AGO — Doug Butler, 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Clare Butler of Souris, has accepted a full hockey scholarship at the University of St. Louis, where he will play hockey and study business administration.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Mike Krause and Blaine Gusdal both scored two goals to lead the host Erickson Saints to a 4-0 win over the McCreary Demons in an exhibition high school varsity boys soccer game.
• 30 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings lost 5-4 in overtime to the Kamloops Blazers, which gives the Blazers a decisive 4-2 margin in the best-of-seven WHL final. Peter Schaefer, Mike Dubinsky, Mike Leclerc and Scott Laluk tallied for Brandon.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Joanna Jacobson scored both Brandon goals as the United Panthers edged the Rossburn Dragons 2-1 in a Westman Rural Soccer League under-16 girls game. In U18 exhibition game, Danielle Rocan scored three goals to lead Brandon past Weyburn, Sask., 4-1.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Headed to a team that’s had its problems, Calen Addison is intent on being part of the solution. Addison went second overall to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in Thursday’s Western Hockey League bantam draft, the highest any Brandonite has ever been chosen.
