The first-place Westman Magic (10-2) swept a pair of games from Central Energy (4-7) in under-13 Manitoba Premier Softball League action on Monday at Ashley Neufeld Softball Complex.

In the first game, the Magic put across six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning en route to an 8-0 mercy-rule victory.

Logan Rome and Ayven Chuchmuch both scored twice, while Brooke Hartman and Bryelle Simard threw a three-hit shutout with three walks and 12 strikeouts.

In the second game, Central went up 6-1 in the top of the third inning, but Westman replied with six runs in the bottom of the frame to earn a 7-6 win.

Kiara Spratt scored a pair of runs.

Rome and Hartman spelled starter Meredith Masson, throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings for the victory.

The Magic hit the road next weekend to meet the Interlake Phillies at Stonewall’s Quarry Park Diamond on Saturday and Central Energy at Winkler Parkland on Sunday for a pair of doubleheaders.

U15 MAGIC

The Eastman Wildcats (6-0) swept the Magic (5-3) at the Friedensfeld Community Centre on Monday.

In the first game, Eastman went up 4-1 early, and while Westman crept back into it, the Wildcats pushed across five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as they earned a 10-3 victory.

Kasia Baranyk had three hits of her team’s nine hits, drove in a run and scored once.

Quinn Twordik was tagged with the loss, allowing nine runs on eight hits in five innings.

In the second game, the Magic scored four runs in the top of the first inning, but the Selects tied by the third inning and put it away with three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth in a 9-7 win.

Eight players had a single hit for the Magic and the runs were scored by different players.

Hadley Robertson took the loss, allowing eight runs on nine hits in four innings while striking out four.

Westman returns to action when Eastman visits Ashley Neufeld Softball Complex on Sunday, June 1.

U17 MAGIC

The Magic (4-6) swept Smittys Terminators (3-6) at Ashley Neufeld Softball Complex on Monday.

Alexa Banga and Brynna Andrew both had two hits and Jade Campbell scored a pair of runs in an 8-6 victory to kick off the doubleheader.

Presley Hodson went the distance, allowing six runs on 10 hits while striking out nine.

In the second game, both teams had six-run innings, with the Magic earning a 14-10 victory.

Anna Yeomans and Emily Bekcwith each drove in four runs, and Jayce Whiteside had three hits and scored three runs.

Whiteside allowed nine runs in 4 1/3 innings, with Andrew throwing 2 2/3 innings of relief and allowing one run. They combined to strike out 10.

The U17 Magic’s Sunday games against Interlake in Stonewall were rescheduled to June 21 due to the weather.

The Magic next take to the field at Portage la Prairie’s Republic of Manitobah to meet Central Energy on Thursday, June 12.

U19 MAGIC

The first-place Magic (4-0) host the Angels/Phillies for a doubleheader on June 1 at Ashley Neufeld Softball Complex in their next action.
