Suspicious fire

Brandon Police Service is investigating a suspicious fire that engulfed a shed on Sunday evening.

Police received a report of a shed and truck on fire in the 1500 block of Rideau Street and went the scene around 7:15 p.m., according to a BPS media release.

The shed was engulfed, and the truck had flames underneath it with smoke coming from the front windshield, the release said.

Police said no one was around.

Brandon Fire and Emergency Services extinguished both fires.

Police are reviewing surveillance from the area, the release said.

BPS is asking that anyone with information contact them at 204-729-2345.

Mugging in Melita

RCMP are searching for a man after a mugging in Melita.

Police were sent to Front Street in the southwest Manitoba town at about midnight Wednesday after a 64-year-old man was robbed while walking home from a business.

A stranger demanded money from the victim, assaulted him and made off with cash, RCMP said in a news release Monday.

The man suffered minor injuries, police said.

A warrant has been issued for 20-year-old Spear Ironman, who is believed to be in Brandon, RCMP said. He is wanted on charges of robbery, uttering threats and assault causing bodily harm.

RCMP asked anyone with information about Ironman’s whereabouts to contact the Virden detachment at 204-748-2046, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online.
